Nissan has officially unveiled two new models at Auto Shanghai 2025 including the all-new Nissan Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid pickup. It has been co-developed by Nissan and Dongfeng, slated to go on sale in China later this year. While it is not going to be limited to the debut market, the list of receiving countries earmarked for the electrified ute are yet to be confirmed and its arrival to Australia is uncertain.

Frontier Pro: Nissan’s first-ever electrified pickup

Styled under the theme of “Rugged Tech,” the new Nissan Frontier Pro features a modern aesthetic fused with classic Nissan design elements. An illuminated front logo hints at the electrified nature of the ute while the signature LED lighting pays tribute to the 1980s Nissan D21 hardbody pickup. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, enhancing its road presence.

Performance and capability

Powering the 2025 Nissan Frontier Pro is a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with a high-output electric motor, producing over 300 kW and 800Nm of torque. It offers an EV-only range of up to 135km (NEDC target), with Intelligent AWD and a rear differential lock supporting off-road and all-weather performance. Four drive modes are available: Hybrid, Pure Electric, Performance, and Snow.

Technology-forward interior

The spacious cabin features a panoramic roof, a 10-inch digital driver’s display (LCD), and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Amenities include seat ventilation, heating, massage functions, and practical additions such as roof rails and a powered cargo bed cover. A V2L port supplies up to 6 kW of external power, suitable for a work vehicle or for camping.

Dongfeng Nissan N7: A new era electric sedan

The Nissan Frontier Pro was joined by another co-developed product at the 2025 Auto Shanghai show – the Dongfeng Nissan N7. Following its debut five months ago, the Dongfeng Nissan N7 goes on sale in China this month, reflecting Nissan’s intent to accelerate product delivery timelines.

Powertrain and charging

The N7 is a low-drag sedan (0.208 Cd) with elegant styling. Equipped with front-wheel drive and a single electric motor (160–200 kW), the N7 comes with 58kWh or 73kWh LFP batteries. Depending on the variant, the driving range stretches from 510km to 635km (CLTC). Fast-charging allows replenishment from 10% to 80% in 19 minutes.

Tech-heavy interior

The interior of the Dongfeng Nissan N7 features AI-based adaptive seating, a 15.6-inch 2.5K infotainment screen powered by Snapdragon™ 8295 P integrated with a DeepSeek-R1 AI platform. High-grade variants include a 14-speaker audio system and dash-mounted retractable speakers. Additional comforts include a refrigerated compartment and 256-colour ambient lighting.

Like the new Nissan Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid ute, the Dongfeng Nissan N7 electric sedan is built specifically for the Chinese market with aims of global exports, but no other countries have been specified yet. Given the popularity of utes and SUVs compared to sedans in Australia, the Frontier Pro PHEV is a more likely candidate, or at least until there’s an electrified version of the Nissan Navara.
