The MG Cyberster GTS made a digital debut during last week’s Shanghai motor show, with the electric hardtop sports car expected to reach Chinese dealerships soon. An Australian launch is likely to follow.

It will likely be positioned under the flagship MG Cyberster roadster, which itself became more affordable with the introduction of the new rear-wheel-drive variant dropping prices below $100,000. The fixed top Cyberster GTS won’t have the convertible roof mechanism which should definitely cut its price by comparison.

Performance Specifications

Powertrain Options

The performance specifications for the new MG Cyberster GTS are yet to be revealed but it should be lighter and faster than the convertible. In the new base RWD Cyberster variant produces 250 kW and 475 Nm from a rear-mounted electric motor. Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive (AWD) models deliver a higher output of 375 kW and 725 Nm.

For the convertible, 0-100 km/h is achieved in 5.2 seconds for the RWD variant and 3.2 seconds for the AWD version.

Driving Range Expectations

The current MG Cyberster models offer NEDC cycle driving ranges of 552km for RWD versions and 500km for AWD versions. The lighter GTS coupe is anticipated to slightly extend these figures, owing to reduced weight and improved aerodynamic efficiency.

Origins and Future Outlook

MG states that the GTS electric sports coupe launch marks the beginning of a “family-oriented product strategy,” implying a future range of sportier Cyberster variants aimed at broader market appeal.

The MG Cyberster GTS is effectively the production version of the MG Cyber GTS concept showcased at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Retaining much of the concept’s spirit, the production GTS is set to offer enhanced dynamics and broaden the Cyberster’s appeal.
