Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued safety recalls for two of its popular models — the CLA four-door coupe and the GLA small SUV — due to manufacturing defects that could increase the risk of an accident.

Mercedes-Benz CLA recall – Brake hose issue

Mercedes-Benz has recalled 37 examples of its CLA small sedan, built in 2024, after discovering a potential fault with the rear brake hoses.

According to the carmaker, the rear axle brake hoses may become damaged over time due to a manufacturing defect. If the hoses are compromised, it could lead to a brake fluid leak and reduced braking performance.

“A reduction in braking performance could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users,” Mercedes-Benz said in its recall notice.

Owners of affected CLA models are advised to contact their nearest authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer to arrange a free inspection and replacement of the rear brake hoses if necessary.

Mercedes-Benz GLA recall – Faulty rear seat rails

In a separate recall, Mercedes-Benz Australia is recalling 291 units of its entry-level SUV, the GLA, over concerns about the rear seat rails. These units are also from the 2024 year of manufacture.

The recall notice states that due to a manufacturing issue,  the stop rivets on the adjustment rails of the rear seats may not have been installed correctly. This could allow the rear seats to move beyond their intended position during manual adjustment.

“In the event of an accident or hard braking, if the rear seats move beyond their defined end position it could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants,” the company said.

Owners of affected GLA models are urged to contact their authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer to have the rear seat rails inspected and repaired free of charge.

What should Mercedes-Benz owners do?

Mercedes-Benz Australia is contacting affected owners directly, but anyone concerned can contact the brand’s Customer Assistance Centre on 1300 762 718 for more information.

Both recalls apply to vehicles built in 2024. Full details, including lists of affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs), can be found in the official recall notices linked below:
