Toyota has unveiled a glimpse of its electric future. Alongside the debut of the updated bZ4x and the C-HR+ electric concept, the carmaker teased more of its planned models due to launch by 2026. This included an all-new battery-powered ute and a large electric SUV that will likely be based on the LandCruiser. However, there’s no confirmation yet on which of these models are headed for Australia.
New electric ute and SUV- Familiar names incoming?
As part of a broader EV announcement, Toyota revealed a teaser image featuring six upcoming electric models. Among them, the silhouette of a dual-cab ute stands out, positioned next to what is believed to be the production version of the LandCruiser Se concept revealed in 2023. A third unidentified SUV was also shown, hinting at more EVs in the pipeline.
Toyota Europe has also stated that the electric ute and SUV will follow a “traditional naming strategy” to ensure customer familiarity. This suggests the SUV could carry the LandCruiser badge, while the ute may take on the HiLux name.
More EVs coming and what this means for Australia
Beyond the electric ute and SUV, along with the aforementioned bZ4x and C-HR+, Toyota’s growing EV lineup will also include the previously unveiled Urban Cruiser, a product developed in partnership with Suzuki.
While Toyota Australia has yet to confirm whether these models will arrive locally, their introduction will likely depend on how well they can compete with incoming rivals in terms of range, towing capacity, payload, and pricing.
