Light SUVs

  • Mazda CX-3 narrowly beat the Toyota Yaris Cross in a super close fight for top honours.
  • Toyota Yaris Cross was right behind with 1,191 sales, just 29 sales shy of the CX-3.
  • Suzuki Jimny remained a popular option with 803 sales, thanks to its retro charm and off-road ability.

Small SUVs under $45,000

  • MG ZS led this value-for-money segment with 2,020 units sold.
  • Hyundai Kona came in a close second with 9 fewer sales than the ZS.
  • GWM Haval Jolion continued its strong performance, moving 1,568 units.

Small SUVs Over $45,000

  • German carmakers remain first pick for those with bigger budgets, and the BMW X1 topped the premium compact SUV space with 561 sales.
  • The Volkswagen T-Roc wasn’t far behind with 517 units.
  • Toyota C-HR completed the top three with 342 sales.

Medium SUVs Under $60,000

  • Toyota RAV4 retained its crown as Australia’s favourite SUV with a massive 4,321 sales. It was also the best-selling SUV of the month.
  • The Mitsubishi Outlander followed with 3,005 units, available with both petrol and PHEV powertrains plus a seven-seater configuration as well.
  • Third place behind those two popular SUVs, and a fair bit behind by numbers, was the Kia Sportage rounded out the top three with 1,847 sales.

Medium SUVs Over $60,000

  • The overall demand for EVs might be on the downturn, but the Tesla Model Y led the charge in the premium medium SUV space with 1,725 sales.
  • A long way back, the bigger and more expensive Mazda CX-60 takes second place in this category with 714 units sold.
  • The more premium Lexus NX held firm in third place with 529 sales.

Large SUVs Under $80,000

  • Toyota Prado was clearly the popular choice for big SUVs with 2,871 sales.
  • Meanwhile, the Ford Everest claimed second spot with 2,100 units sold.
  • Isuzu MU-X remained the next most popular option with 1,420 sales.

Large SUVs Over $80,000

  • For those wanting a more premium large SUV, the Land Rover Defender topped the charts with 447 units.
  • The BMW X5 secured second spot with 358 sales.
  • Flashy and plush, the Range Rover Sport was the next best-selling car for this category with 246 units sold.

Upper Large SUVs Under $120,000

  • The Nissan Patrol dominated this segment with 710 sales for March 2025.
  • Coming in a long way behind was the Toyota LandCruiser Wagon with 199 units.
  • The family-focussed and off-road capable Land Rover Discovery managed just 60 sales.

Upper Large SUVs Over $120,000

  • Topping the list of the top priced SUVs is the Lexus GX. It was the top-seller here with 99 units.
  • BMW X7 came in a close second, selling 93 units in March 2025.
  • The Mercedes-Benz GLS closed out the top three with 53 sales, which is a lot less than its top German rival.
