As part of its new and improved model lineup for the year ahead, say hello to the Subaru Trailseeker electric SUV. Developed as a more spacious and capable counterpart to the Subaru Solterra electric SUV, the Trailseeker blends rugged practicality with electric performance. It has been revealed ahead of its international market rollout in 2026, with right-hand drive production for the UK market but Australian release plans remain unconfirmed.

Trailseeker design: Larger, longer and more capable

The Subaru Trailseeker builds on the Solterra platform, offering a stretched body with shared front panels and doors but an extended tail section for increased cargo space. While official boot capacity figures are yet to be released, Subaru confirms the Trailseeker is 152mm longer and 25mm taller than the Solterra, making it more in line with Outback buyers looking for an EV alternative.

Standard roof rails and a choice of 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels enhance the vehicle’s versatility, while design tweaks include a new-look front fascia and a unique full-width tail-light treatment exclusive to the Trailseeker.

Trailseeker Performance & Powertrain

Equipped with dual electric motors producing a combined 276 kW – up from the Solterra’s 252 kW – the Trailseeker is Subaru’s most powerful production vehicle to date. It can accelerate from 0–60mph (0–97km/h) in a claimed 4.4 seconds, delivering impressive performance for an all-electric SUV.

SpecificationDetails

Driving Range418 km+ (260 miles, estimated)
0–60mph (0–97km/h)4.4 seconds (claimed)

A 74.7 kWh battery enables an estimated driving range of over 418km (260 miles), ensuring it remains practical for longer trips. With a towing capacity of 1587kg and the inclusion of a NACS port for Tesla Supercharger access in the US, it balances performance with real-world usability.

Trailseeker dynamic & off-road features

Subaru says the Trailseeker benefits from retuned suspension and all-wheel-drive systems, aided by acceleration sensors on both axles. These systems dynamically adjust to load variations during braking, turning, and acceleration to optimise stability and grip.

Off-road capability is supported by X-Mode with selectable Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings, along with hill-descent control. Ground clearance is estimated at approximately 210mm, matching the expectations for a crossover with mild off-road intent.

Trailseeker technology & interior features

Inside, the Subaru Trailseeker borrows the updated interior from the 2026 Solterra, headlined by a new 14-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Other available features include:

  • Harman Kardon premium sound system
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Dual wireless phone chargers
  • Panoramic glass roof with integrated sunshade
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Radiant footwell heater for added comfort

Trailseeker safety features

Subaru equips the Trailseeker with a comprehensive suite of safety technologies, including the following as standard fitment:

  • Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Front and rear cross-traffic alerts
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Emergency Stop Assist

Market availability & future outlook

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker will launch in the US in early 2026, with UK sales to follow mid-year. While the Australian release has yet to be confirmed, the Trailseeker name has already been trademarked locally. A Subaru Australia spokesperson acknowledged the brand’s latest global reveals and suggested more local news would follow in due course.

“Subaru’s latest global unveilings at the New York International Auto Show provide an exciting glimpse into the brand’s future. We look forward to sharing what these global debuts mean for the Australian market in due course. Stay tuned!”

The Trailseeker’s combination of size, performance, and practicality could make it a compelling EV option for buyers seeking an Outback-like experience in a fully electric format.
