It’s been a long time coming, but the covers have finally been pulled off the all-new 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA. A few years ago, there were rumours that Mercedes was about to pull the plug on its entry-level compact models, including the CLA coupe-styled sedan, but it’s now in its third-generation and best form yet!
Expectedly, electrification is a big part of the new CLA, but there’s still going to be a combustion engine on offer. But there’s more to this sleek Mercedes than just fresh looks and a new motor — it’s packed with some very cool features that set the stage for the future of Mercedes.
Here are 10 things you need to know about the 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA.
1. All-electric, and better than ever

The modest little CLA has gone electric!. That also means the name has been elongated, and these are the two trims announced:
- CLA 250+ with EQ Technology
- CLA 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology
The single-motor in the CLA 250+ is rated at 200kW and 335Nm of performance, while the dual-motor 4MATIC variant has an output of 260kW and 515Nm. The latter claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 4.9 seconds but the single-motor can still manage a respectable 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
It uses a 85kW nickel-manganese-cobalt battery that offers higher energy density and rapid charging capabilities. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the electric CLA supports DC fast charging up to 320 kW, allowing drivers to gain 325 km of range in just 10 minutes. Factor in a claimed WLTP range of up to 792 kilometres and the new Mercedes-Benz CLA might be the ideal small luxury electric sedan.—making range anxiety a thing of the past.
To further optimise efficiency and performance, the CLA 250+ features a two-speed rear axle gearbox. This intelligent transmission system seamlessly shifts between two gears- one for strong acceleration and better towing capacity in city driving and another for maximised efficiency and high-speed cruising on highways. The result? An impressive balance between power, performance, and range.
2. Mercedes-Benz CLA sets new standard in efficiency

As highlighted previously, the all-electric CLA claims a rather impressive WLTP range of up to 792km. This was achieved thanks to a combination of range-affecting factors, from the design to the fine-tuning of the powertrain itself. Leading the lineup, the CLA 250+ with EQ Technology consumes just 14.1-12.2 kWh/100 km, while the CLA 350 4MATIC registers 14.7-12.5 kWh/100 km.
The CLA’s impressive efficiency is a result of real-world-applications from the Vision EQXX Concept. Its permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle, developed in-house, can achieve a battery-to-wheel efficiency over long drives of 93 percent.
The all-electric CLA also debuts Mercedes-Benz’s first air-to-air heat pump, designed to maximise efficiency while keeping the cabin comfortable. Unlike traditional systems, it doesn’t rely on a water circuit, instead pulling heat from three sources simultaneously— waste heat from the electric drivetrain, the battery, and the ambient air. This multi-source system significantly reduces energy consumption, using only about one-third of the power required by a conventional auxiliary heater. This results in more efficient pre-conditioning and extended range.
3. Hybrid variants coming soon

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that hybrid versions of the CLA will launch later this year. The variant should reach Aussie showrooms by early 2026. These models will feature a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, offering improved efficiency and the ability to drive short distances on electric power. The electric motor will be integrated into a new 8-speed eDCT automatic transmission. Exact details of this hybrid powertrain will be revealed closer to its debut.
4. Reinterpreted design with an illuminated grille

The third-generation CLA debuts a fresh take on the iconic Mercedes-Benz grille with a fully illuminated star panel. For the first time in Mercedes’ legacy, 142 LED-lit stars create a bold and distinctive look. Meanwhile, the hybrid version retains a traditional chrome grille with a Mercedes-Benz pattern, framed by an LED light strip.
It still has one of the most aerodynamically efficient shapes in the segment with a drag coefficient of just 0.21cd. This is in part also thanks to the optimally designed openings around the grille and headlamps, a smooth underbody, and it even has wheel spoilers.
The rear-end looks a lot like a pinched EQS with the connected LED taillamps. Its rear diffuser eats into the chunky bumper, but creates a good contrast against the body colour.
5. High-tech, spacious interior

Inside the 2026 CLA, the MBUX Superscreen dominates the dashboard, featuring a 10.25-inch driver display and a 14-inch central display, with an optional 14-inch passenger display available post-launch. A large glass panel housing these screens creates a futuristic, high-tech feel. The centre console, seemingly floating in mid-air, adds a sleek, modern touch while integrating a double cup holder and an optional wireless charging pad for added convenience. Further enhancing the premium look, leather-wrapped door panels follow a flowing, three-dimensional design around classic tubular pull handles.
6. That roofline is even cooler than before

A panoramic glass roof, now standard across all models of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA, takes the luxury quotient to the next level. This one-piece fixed glass roof extends from the windshield to the rear, eliminating the central brace for an unobstructed view and enhanced headroom. Heat-insulating laminated safety glass with an infrared film and LowE coating will ensure that you remain protected against sunlight and heat.
7. First model to feature MB.OS

The new-generation CLA is the first vehicle in the brand’s lineup to debut the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS). This proprietary software platform enables over-the-air updates, including driver assistance systems, ensuring the car remains technologically advanced throughout its lifecycle..
8. AI-driven intelligence for smarter journeys

The new CLA leverages advanced AI to enhance both infotainment and navigation. Its fourth-generation MBUX system, powered by ChatGPT-4o and Google Gemini, delivers a highly interactive experience, its virtual assistant recognising emotions and adapting to user preferences. Integrating Google Maps ensures precise route planning and intelligently factoring in charging stops. With Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent, the system dynamically adjusts to real-time driving conditions, optimising efficiency and convenience.
9. Personalised soundscapes for every drive

The new-gen CLA has further enhanced the driving experience with Mercedes’ Holistic SoundExperience. The system offers a range of soundscapes to match your mood. You can choose from options like Serene Breeze, Fractal Fusion, and Roaring Pulse, which adjust the car’s startup, shutdown, and locking sounds. While it’s not as customisable as Tesla’s system, it’s a fun addition that makes the CLA feel even more high-tech and engaging.
10. Enhanced safety and driver assistance

The CLA features an upgraded MB.DRIVE assistance package, including DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control and Lane Change Assist. The system supports SAE Level 2 automation, allowing semi-autonomous driving on highways. The standard fit Distance Assist DISTRONIC utilises eight cameras, five radar sensors, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and a lot of computing power.
In terms of cabin safety, the new CLA also takes a step further by adding a centre airbag that deploys between the driver and front-passenger in the event of a side-impact-collision.
