After more than a decade off the calendar, the Melbourne Motor Show is making a grand comeback this April 2025. It promises a showcase of cutting-edge automotive technology, new releases, and a decent mix of car brands.

The event, which will take place on April 5-6 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), will host over 20 car manufacturers, including industry heavyweights such as Kia, Isuzu Ute, Porsche, Tesla, MG, GWM, and Subaru. Additionally, several emerging brands (from China) new to the Australian market—like Deepal, Farizon, Foton, Geely, JAC, Leapmotor, Smart, Xpeng, and Zeekr—will present their models to the public.

Major debuts and show-stopping models

One of the most anticipated moments of the show will be the global debut of the 2025 MG QS, a seven-seat SUV aimed at taking on established players like the Toyota Kluger and Mazda CX-80. Initially launching with a turbo-petrol engine, a plug-in hybrid version is set to follow.

Kia’s highly anticipated Tasman ute will be on display ahead of its official launch in July, while the brand will also showcase the EV3 and EV5 electric SUVs. Isuzu Ute will bring the newly facelifted MU-X alongside the Australian-developed D-Max Blade, engineered in partnership with Walkinshaw Automotive for enhanced off-road capabilities.

Electric and hybrid enthusiasts can expect an impressive lineup from BYD, which will present its Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute and the Sealion 7 electric SUV. GWM will showcase its Cannon Alpha PHEV, Haval H6 GT PHEV, and the Tank 300 diesel. Meanwhile, the facelifted Tesla Model Y is expected to make its first Melbourne appearance, with a potential glimpse of the Cybertruck in left-hand drive—if its showing at Sydney’s Everything Electric Show is any indication.

Expanding the experience beyond just cars

The 2025 Melbourne Motor Show isn’t just about cars. With 87 aftermarket exhibitors confirmed, visitors can expect an immersive experience featuring brands like Hot Wheels, Lego, Red Bull, Shannons Insurance, and VPlates (VicRoads’ custom plates). Adding to the excitement, Fire Rescue Victoria will display its Electric Vehicle for Incident and Emergency (EVIE) truck, looking at how electric technology is shaping emergency response vehicles.

What’s on display?

The confirmed vehicle lineup includes a mix of new models, EVs, and high-performance machines. Here are some of the highlights besides the aforementioned cars:

  • Brabus 800 Somo ‘One Second Wow’ (right-hand drive, based on Mercedes-AMG G63)
  • Geely EX5 EV
  • Leapmotor C10 REEV and C10 EV
  • McLaren Artura Spider
  • JAC De-Fine concept, T9 SUV and ute

Potential appearances include the new-generation Subaru Forester, Deepal S07, MG S5 EV, Peugeot 3008 mild-hybrid, and Mahindra XUV700.
