Morris Garages, popularly known as MG, is a British-origin Chinese-owned car manufacturer. MG so far has had great success with the value-for-money proposition in the affordable range. MG has somewhat become a name tantamount to affordability and features. With so much success in so little time, everybodys set their eyes on what MG brings to the automobile market next.

The EV revolution might have slowed down globally but this greener mobility option is still in consideration for many in Australia thanks to the lower running costs and modern features. Like most other China-owned brands, MG has been making some serious strides in the revolution, and these are the MG EV options available in the country

MG4 Electric is a budget electric hatchback option from China that may not have crossed your mind, but getting some hands-on time reveals it has plenty to offer. For a while now, MGs designs felt a bit copy-paste and lacking in creativity, but this all-new EV comes with stunning new looks with a great use of chrome finishes and ofcourse 7 vibrant colours to stand as evidence for your excellent choice.

In case the standard rear-wheel-drive electric hatchback feels too tame, but you would love some extra performance in the same compact package, there is an alternative – the MG4 XPower. It comes with a dual-motor setup, good for 300kW with 250 Nm of torque from the front motor and 350 Nm from the rear. These motors draw power from the 64kWh battery pack and the MG4 Electric XPower has a claimed WLTP range of 400 km.

All variants of the MG4 electric car have a standard 10.25-inch infotainment system and a 7.0-inch drivers display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available but only with wired connectivity. Additionally, the infotainment system is quite glitchy and it is also the only way to operate the climate controls which is not an intuitive user experience. Another problem that XPower has to address is that drive modes are to be changed from the screen with over 5 taps. Thats a long journey no one wants when performance brands have long had the simplest solution – one button or toggle, either on the steering wheel or on the central console.

In each variant, the MG ZS is a worthy consideration for your new small electric SUV because of its pleasant design, useful features, and overall practicality. The power and torque are quite similar between Essence, Excite and Long Range with the electric motor driving the front wheels only. The ZS EV is a good city car as it is easy to drive even with a comfy enough ride quality.
