The Subaru Levorg is a way to get the power and performance of the Subaru WRX but in a more practical wagon body. From the front doors forward the Levorg is identical to a WRX.
That goes for the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine. Arranged in the classic horizontally-opposed (or boxer) layout that is a signature of Subaru it makes a distinctive exhaust sound.
The Levorg is also available with a 1.6-litre turbo for those who want the practicality and wagon panache but without the outright pace of the full blown WRX engine.
It's the entry-level Levorg GT that gets that 1.6-litre engine, although in 2016 and 2017 the GT got the 2.0-litre engine.
All other Levorgs – including the GT-S and more focused STI - get the 2.0 engine.
And if you want leather and more equipment then the Premium is for you.
Another big difference between Levorg and WRX is the transmission. The Levorg is only available with an automatic gearbox and it’s a CVT, or continuously variably transmission that can vary revs infinitely to match what the driver is asking of it.
While it’s not particularly large, the Levorg’s wagon layout makes it a practical family car that also happens to be plenty of fun if you find the right road.
