Originating as a steel foundry in France in 1810, the Peugeot company has gone through some significant changes over time, including ownership, the kinds of vehicles being made and the markets where they are sold around the globe. In 1974, Peugeot bought 30% of Citroen and, in 1975, took over the entire company, forming the parent company, PSA Peugeot Citroen Group. In 1987, they produced one of the most popular cars of all time in the 405, which was developed to compete with the Ford Sierra. Two and a half million 405s were sold worldwide.
