While the business name traces back to the 19th century, Holden started building cars in its own name in 1948 with the launch of the now legendary 48-215.

At its heart the Commodore VF II is a large and affordable sedan of the type Holden and Ford spent decades developing. At nearly 5.0 metres long the VF is big, yet it also handles nimbly and is very comfortable over long distances thanks to expert local tuning.
Performance from a family of V6 and V8 engines ranges from good to great. But fuel economy is not a strength, especially for the V8s.
Inside is masses of room front and rear and passengers are looked after by excellent sound deadening.
The biggest functional irritant about the Commodore is its lack of split-fold rear seat, limiting its storage capacity. However, there"s also the stylish and commodious wagon that solves that problem.
Of course Holden no longer exists, although a service and spares network is still in-place.
